Double Rainbow in Trinidad, Colorado! |
While yesterday was back to work Monday for the rest of the world, it was my husband's first day off after 7 days of working. So to say we were excited to have him home with us was an understatement! It's crazy the amount of time he spends working around the house just to keep things nice, even after working when at work. So yesterday was no different, he was up by 7am and out in the shop finishing leftover projects and cleaning up. The morning went by quick for us all and by the time we set down to lunch together we realized we only had half a day left, what to do? We put the kids shoes on and went outside into the shop.
It was hot, it's been humid, and we worked HARD on cleaning/organizing the shop. The kids helped us vacuum and moved what they could, but they were just happy to be putting in time outdoors and using their hands. The whole day they'd been told we could go swimming after we got some stuff done, so they were eager to make that happen! It's been on and off raining here the past few days and every time it does it messes up their plans of getting in the pool. So dad was off, they'd been good, the sun was out, it was the perfect chance to!

Snack break while cleaning! |
We finished cleaning and went to pick up all of our trash from outside when my husband noticed some huge, dark rain clouds in the distance. But what?! There was no real chance of rain today! And we had already promised the kids time in the pool. A quick check of the radar verified it, storms were coming. So we rushed to get our stuff in, and broke the news to the kids. Disappointment, for them and for us. As a parent one of the greatest joys is seeing your kids excited and happy about things. To see disappointment is never fun.
We came in, dealt with their tears and watched the rain pour down and listened to the thunder clap. We coked dinner together, took showers, and sat down. And it was only 6pm. What were we supposed to do for the rest of the evening now that our fun plans had changed? That's when it hit me. This was the blessing. There was a message behind this.

Watching the rain! |
There we were, stopped completely. That never happens. We're always, always on the go, no matter how hard we try to build time in to relax. If we're not running around we're home but still working on something. But down time to do, nothing? That is rare. This should be cherished and enjoyed I thought. And as I watched the rain pour down for hours on end, I got to thinking, this was our Rainbow. After a storm, you look for a Rainbow. It's like a peace offering for it being a bad storm. Life is the same way. Every time you endure a storm, you can know that a Rainbow is on the horizon. You just have to look for it. And if you do, and once you find it, it's a beautiful thing!
Almost a month ago on vacation, as we were headed down to New Mexico from Colorado we were driving through some heavy rainfall. (It wasn't the first time that trip that the rain had decided to show it's face, it had previously delayed us an extra day already!) Then right there out the van window was the most beautiful, full, double Rainbow! The pretty scenery that is Colorado made this rainbow even more majestic, so as I snapped some pictures I knew that some day it would be such a neat reminder of how the rain may mess up your plans, while making them beautiful all at the same time!

Cuddle time! |
So last night we relaxed and rested, and were even all in our pajamas by 8pm! And I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thrilled to death with the cuddle time! The kids LOVED getting to spend some quality down time as a family. So even though it rained into the dark of the night last night and we didn't get to see a Rainbow in the sky after all of the rain, I know it was there, figuratively. This was such a clear reminder to me and I hope it helps you. When life presents you with a storm, no matter how small, large, or just inconvenient that it may be, pause for a second. Be still and patient, your Rainbow is coming, or it may already be there, you just have to look for it!
